There's no paper you can go to that has like the gold standard for studying how fast people can start. So there's justnot a lot of confidence from the scientific community that world athletics has like, a correct, firm number here. When i ask metya about this, he explained it is very complicated. There are just a lot of variables to control for. And then, like, when it comes to, like, these censors themselves, apparently, like, how they decide when a start happens can beike, very variable between censors.
At the 2022 World Athletics Championships, sprinter TyNia Gaither was disqualified for false starting ... after the gun went off. Officials said she started faster than humanly possible. How can that be?
