Is Reverse Periodization a Real Thing in Triathlon?

Reverse periodization is a real thing in triathlon. You start with like a little bit of prep work, you go right into Vio to max and then do your threshold work. It can make sense for some athletes but I don't think it's something that you should take as a way to prioritize training for long distance triathletes. There might be some, or there are definitely triathletes that they don't even need that high intensity training.
