There is mindfulness meditation training in cognitive psychology which basically tells you to close your eyes and just focus on the intakes of your breath. People actually become better at solving certain creative problems certain logical problems after they do this for a few months to happiness so we see kind of happier and approach oriented brain states. As little as 10 to 15 minutes a day of that kind of mindfulness practice has really strong effects in all sorts of areas of life from problem solving. Holmes comes across as somebody who knows nothing, he's an unreliable narrator himself especially when talking to Watson because he likes to make points and he likes strongly to make them but there are other quotes about literature philosophy astronomy politics or botany.
