I think because I came up in the Brooklyn NDC and specifically with like the stamp that what I was doing was like outsider or alternative. What I realized is that there was this thing missing from the dead center of mainstream pop, which was a kind of heart. And I kind of just felt like all right this is my seventh album. I can play with vocal flexing and I canplay with new sounds but ultimately it has to have that anchor...it has to fill that void for me personally"
