Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee
The platinum jubilee marks 70 years since queen elizabeth the second succeeded to the throne. The first time that a british monarch has lasted for 70 years on the throne. Unlike most royal events, weddings or coronations or funerals, a jubilee is really just a marker of sthasis. It celebrates the fact that the current monarch isn't dead and hasn't died for a prolonged period of time.
