The RSF and the Sudanese Army
Sudan has had a difficult democratic transition and these two men have been rivals for some time. So, basically, the RSF was a counterweight to the Sudanese army in the event that the army might want to topple him in a coup. And so today, we are seeing those differences play out on the battlefield between these two forces. If the roots of this conflict are 20 years old in the government response to the Darfur insurgency, why are we seeing the outbreak of conflict today?
