Is It a Conscious or Unconscious Process?

I'm curious about whether you think this process is a conscious or unconscious process, or whether it's some combination of both. In the studies that i was just describing, where people are making choices like where to eat lunch, and a few possibilities are popping into their minds, we're thinking of that as a pretty unconscious, automatic process. So i don't know whether, o, you have any particular position on whether or not this is something that happens consciously, and what would that mean?
