AI and the Future of Life

Some critics of AI say this takes a lot of processing power. We can get AI to solve cancer for us, cure all diseases because it's super humanly intelligent, right? We just trained it on cancer. We trained it on climate change. Feed in all the relevant information and then it will have a godlike genius that lifts us out of our inherited problems. Are we going to create a conscious AI that is so strong that it might destroy us all?
