The Impact of Proposition 209 on Black People
John Avlon says he was impressed by the work of a Berkeley graduate student who studied affirmative action. He argues that it's been oversold as an argument for affirmative action, which is parasitic on inequality. Avlon: Affirmative action doesn't mean you have to go to Harvard or Rice in order to get a good job. The idea that black students couldn't get into an ultra-selective university and settle for a lower ranked one presupposes they were deprived of an opportunity,Avlon says.
