Pandora was founded by three friends in 2010. The company has since gone on to become one of the world's largest music streaming services. It is now valued at more than $1 billion, with over 100 million songs played worldwide. In its early days, Pandora had a team of about 50 people working full-time and raising money for the business. But it soon became clear that they would not be able to keep up their promises if they wanted to stay afloat. They started asking employees to defer an ever larger share of their salary or options. And eventually stopped paying them altogether.
