The History of the United States After the Civil War
From 1840 on it's a prominent part of the argument between pro and anti slavery Christians. I think church history being introduced into the debate made the debate more intractable. It makes both sides less likely to be able to actually reason together to come to some kinds of agreement. And so, you know, there are some readings of the theological crisis of slavery that seemed to suggest the problem was that they just used the Bible only.
