The Theory of Interdependence and Modularity

Theory of interdependence and modularity suggests that during whatever time a product is not good enough for what the target customers you're going after trying to accomplish, you need to have an integrated product architecture. But as soon as you get to a point where it does what they needed to do, then the product architecture should switch from integrated to modular. The whole ecosystem around the product so that the value isn't captured in making the whole thing, it's captured in make the components, the assembly is commodified and things change pretty radically.
