What's the Lens to Good Play on a Board?

How do you take the servant leadership approach, the coaching approach, and the lens to what good play on a board is? The person i've learned the most about boards from was meg whitman. Meg would go around and ask each board member, she said, i'm not sure we are being bold enough in this area. And then at the end of the board meeting, meg would do that same thing i described that tom terney would do. Use your board. Boards want help. If you don't guide them where you need the help, they're going to help an erace you don't want.
