One of the things where we struggled was the user experience of the new system. hive was fairly good at tackling jobs at scale but it had a really poor user experience by modern standards. No one today probably would choose to use hive so I think the lesson learned is that today you can choose between awesome systems of different kind and be cognizant of what is the persona you're optimizing for.
