The Mythology of the Western
The Western is the natural genre to study, because it was the dominant genre for well over 100 years. Almost every other feature film being made between 1939 and 1965 or so was a Western. The West is the American mythology, it is the mythical landscape of the American psyche. So within the Western genre, you have everything you need to know about the psyche of the American...and how others perceive us as Americans.
