i didn't expect this to be a kind of soft introduction to his logic, but it is. aristotle's painting a picture where speech acts and the act of publicly speaking involves an audience. And that you have to acknowledge that in a way that's much more sophisticated than what we get in plato. Anthemometic speech as an invitation to your audience to basically paint the picture in themselves. The most persuasive speakers are not the ones who give the best argument,. they're the ones that do the best job at tuning into how the audience is going to react. i was very much appreciative of some of the insights that i gleaned from reading this excellent book.
