Some scholars have suggested that this location represented a sort of Epicurean garden to Nietzsche. Rather than pursuing worldly fame or material wealth, the ideal Epicurean Garden is just a small community of philosophers who live self-sufficient and uncaring for the affairs of the world. And so that's the hidden life, withdraw from the world, go into concealment, live as some small anonymous group that doesn't get entangled with societies of affairs. That was the good life. As far as good lives go, I think that's a pretty good one.
