Trade Union Trade Unionism in the United States

Small craft unions that emerged at the beginning of the labor movement were overtaken by larger mass industrial unions. Industrial unions can represent a large mber of unskilled or semi skilled workers and have become very powerful negotiators. The united states has implemented a series of laws known as the iht to work laws. In effect, this weakened collective bargaining and reduced the amount of money available for unions to spend on legal or political activities. Over all us, union membership is far lower than in many other developed countries. Currently, only around 11 % of american workers are members of a union. Comparing with other o e c d member countries reveals how low Union membership actually is.
