How to Stick to Story

Comedians should keep a log line of funny things that happened in their lives. They can then go back and pull from it at any moment to make jokes. John Akof, New York Times best-selling writer says the last stage of his creative process is always to put a funny filter on whatever he's created. It sounds to me like the idea of sticking to story, look for everyday frustrations that we all can feel.
