The breath is directly influential to an important cranial nerve called the vaguest nerve. The healthy tone of that nerve is affected by your posture, your breath and your behavior. So the breathing is really the key to calming the body, calming the mind on a physiological level. And it's an opportunity to practise getting into the zone that can be transferred or applied to one's performance when it comes time to do that.
