The reliance of modern medicine on guidelines, protocols and algorithms can do patients a disservice. When the decision trees don't lead you to helping that person, but rather to helping yourself get that patient out of the emergency room or out of the wards. I feel like it's become the other extreme of like the checkbox portion of medicine. Checkboxes can be very good for certain things, but when it comes to diagnosis, it can give us a false sense of comfort than to address the person's complaint right there.
