Gallop: Do we create or manifest problems because our life to day is too easy? Have we over crafted our reality such that wen have to manufacture suffering to just have meaning? A good question, and there's some data on this. While for happiness there is a positive correlation with how rich the country is, for meaning, there's a negative correlation. The countries that were poorer had the most meaning on average.

Paul Bloom is a professor of Psychology at the University of Toronto. He was also the Brooks and Suzanne Ragen Professor of Psychology and Cognitive Science at Yale University . Paul studies how children and adults make sense of the world, with a focus on pleasure, morality, religion, fiction, and art.

Paul's newest book is The Sweet Spot: The Pleasures of Suffering and the Search for Meaning.
