The Soil Food Web

The soil food web is made up of millions of different food chains. Little guy eat the bigger guy get eaten by the bigger guy. If you don't have enough nitrogen, it doesn't matter how much you have of everything else. You're just simply not going to be able to ignore your plants properly. Some plants like the nitrate nitrogen and some plants like the ammonia nitrogen.
