The Importance of Logic in Philosophy

JL Austin, born in 1911, dies in 1960. He was one of the early figures to resist a trend called logical positivism. The idea is that the main question really is what makes sentences meaningful. It doesn't have literal meaning, perhaps it has some other purpose,. Maybe it's a way of clearing your throat or expressing your emotions but it shouldn't be treated as literally meaningful.
