The History of Voodoo in Louisiana

In Louisiana, voodoo had been part of the culture for well over a century. The white authorities in New Orleans seemed to be of two minds when it came to voodoo. During some periods it was persecuted, meetings were busted up and outlawed. At other times it was tolerated, even celebrated as something that made the city special. This inconsistent love-hate relationship with voodoo also seems to have extended to the city's most famous practitioner of the religion, Marie LaVoe.
