Is There a Roadblock to the Brain?

The first thing that we do is fix context. The main goal was to fix the context and make, I mean, it's literally like I say in the book,. It's a little box that you put the animal and everything is restricted. And there were other kinds of approaches, more ethological approaches that were trying to see what happens in more natural environments. But they didn't take off because it's incredibly challenging. We can't have a forest here and study animals doing their natural thing. That largely is an empirical thing that we're going to discover as we create more neuro techniques.
