There is a difference between inflation and expansion. The universe inflated from a grape fruit size to 30 orders of magnitude ger than a great frut size. And that happened at a rate, if you calculate how fast that would occur, it's far in excess of the speed of light. It has many properties in common with what we call dark energy,. That cosmic acceleration we observe to day was awarded to a nobell prize by a three physicist in 20 11. But the inflation would have occurred 13 billion s, almost 14 billion years earlier.
What happened before The Big Bang? Neil deGrasse Tyson and comic co-host Matt Kirshen answer questions about inflation theory, multiverses, the cosmic microwave background, and the possible end of the scientific method with cosmologist Brian Keating
