The EU's Competitive Advantage Over NATO
The United States has seen EU defense initiatives as a real potential challenge to NATO. "We also don't like the fact that if the EU spends on defense, then it's going to spend that money in euros," U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says. European militaries are stovepipe in how they operate, according to Hagel.
