Napoleon's Invasion of Russia
In June 1812, against the advice of his closest advisors, Napoleon invaded Russia with well over 600,000 soldiers. With a provisioned army that size, and his brilliance, Napoleon thought that the war with Russia would be over in 20 days. The hiccup was, Russia wouldn't stand and fight a proper battle. Their more egregious crime was refusing to let Napoleon marry the Tsar's younger sister Anna,. denying the Shakespearean Union of the two great empires of Europe.
