The Four Causes
Aristotelians call the four causes. The shape something has is its formal cause. The agent that brings it into being is the efficient cause. Finally, the goal or end for the sake of which something comes into being is called the final cause. It's not meant to suggest getting things done quickly and with a minimum of waste.
