The Ku Klux Klan - A History of the KKK

The Ku Klux Klan was strong enough by 1868 to make a major effort in the election. Republican US grant faced off against Democrat Horatio Seymour. By that point, racists had hit upon the idea of scaring black people into not voting and then basically doing everything possible via their control of the state and local governments to make black people kind of close to slaves again. The KKK would hold regular meetings to vote on whether or not to punish someone for selling liquor or being a black guy vaguely near a white woman. Some people they'd warn, some people they'd whip, some people just straight up murdered.
