Is There a Convergence Between AI and the Culture?

Is there a kind of alignment between the technology as it's developed and mainstream culture, which tends towards averageness? I don't think that's the thing with artificial intelligence. There is this very interesting asymmetry in which the finishing touch to these algorithms is much easier to do than the kind of initial training. That's sort of the appeal that's there.
