Plato's Symposium

Plato's symposium is one of the main literary texts that deals with male sexuality. It recounts a drinking party, or symposium, that was supposedly hosted by Agathon to celebrate his victory in a dramatic festival at the city Dionysia,. Some of the most famous Athenian men of his day were in attendance, including Socrates and Aristophanes. In fact, those who committed themselves exclusively to homosexual acts were mocked and vilified as we see from the abuse that was heaped upon such a feminine as they were regarded in the place of Aristophane.
