Is It a Question of Law?
It is not a question of law to say that it is discriminatory as the dissenting judges have said. The point is that it is open to governments, whether we like it or not, to say that someone will have one bite of the cherry or two bites of the cherry. And so it does not violate the equality code. As far as the question of politics is concerned, this has changed the way in which we see reservation. I think the politics will play out in different ways, both in terms of upper caste politics and greater demands for reservation from those who don't have it.
