The Rise of Evil in the 70s

This book is set mostly in 1977 why was writing a 70s novel appealing? I lived through them and I did not think all that highly of them as an era. There's fun stuff that happened there but it turned out there was actually a lot of fascinating stuff that took place in seven in 77 specifically evil can evil. Richard Nixon ending his career and Elvis dying, the Manhattan blackout and studio 54 launching are just some of the things that were going on during those years.
