The Role of Platelet Surface Proteins in Trauma Protection

HSP47 is a protein that's important for hibernating bears. You see it acting in the expected ways on the surface of human platelets. So do you then take it one step further and look at people who have a spinal injury? Yes. The spinal cord injured patients, which we measured platelets often, compared it to a matched control group, they actually have this protein down regulated on the platelet surface. And so our hypothesis is that you get less HSP47 production already in the mega carrier sites.
