Polio is a disease that happens in less than 1% of people who get infected with the poliovirus. People start shedding virus in their poop a few days before symptoms start. They continue to shed for at least one to two weeks, though I saw some estimates that they can shed for up to four to six weeks. So undoubtedly that's something that has made polio more difficult to control and this very high rate of asymptomatic cases too.
