The Beginning of Health and Safety Goes Mad

The city was rebuilt mainly in stone and not the combination of wood, Thatcher and firelighters that had been approved by safety officers last time. The only exemption was when they built the new Globe Theatre on the Southbank. That was the first Thatcher in central London for over 300 years. And so many beautiful buildings were commissioned, however, including Wren's famous St Paul's Cathedral,. which was not declared finished until 1711.
