Globalization in the Late Nineteenth Century
In the late nineteenth century, there were no impediments to trade at all. It was possible to travel throughout the world without a passport. Huge numbers of migrants left the country of their birth to live in other countries. There are also political forces which are deliberately aimed at undermining globalization. And then there are deliberate protectionist measures to try to protect domestic industry.
