The University and the Community
If we are concerned about university industry linkages and all the harms that come out of that, rather than putting new policies into place to avoid conflict of interest, for example, what we could really consider doing is setting up new kinds of institutions. This actually puts into place very different kinds of relationships between the university and the broader community that currently exists. It would help to bring about a new vision of a university that is much more public serving as opposed to privately serving.
