CNN's John Sutter talks to a postdoc about the impact of legislation on fertility rates. The law, he says, made it harder for families to have more than two children. It also meant that they had to get bigger cars or buy minivans in order to fit all three car seats into their vehicles at once,. He believes there is a 60% chance that those factors played a role when deciding how many kids to have.
Why have fertility rates dropped so dramatically? Do fathers or mothers get more happiness from parenting? And how does birth order affect a child’s future?
