Verber and the Escapees' Account of Auschwitz

Fred Vetslas become Josef Lanek, but Verber and a later escapee are taken to meet an envoy of the pope. They're telling him about their gas chambers, the column of smoke that comes out of the chimney day and night as Jewish bodies are burned in Auschwitz. And eventually, Verber's fellow escapee says, Catholic priests are being killed there too. The Monsignor at that point, faints on hearing this. He promises then to get the report to the Vatican. But it takes a long time before they actually do anything.
