Introduction

Growing up, i never knew my parents income, not even ball park. Over time, and after decades of hard graft on their part, i came to suspect that had they wanted a posh car, they could probably have had one. In America, where they live, people drive poch cars even when they can't afford them. To day, they drive toota corollas. The house, which they have lived in for 37 years, since i was three, is much nicer than it was in 19 80 ie. But they spurn the trappings of luxury and prefer camping to hotels. I loathe the vision of bankers drunk on new found takings on the stock market
