Is There a Way to Drive People Away From Gamified Progress Metrics?

I really want to know if there's some intrinsic way to direct people away from these gamified progress metrics and more towards the enjoyment of learning. If there's not a way of thinking that can be taught, is there something visual that you can put as a feature that would still add value? I think maybe one of the ideas that may help is like having a bundle of these metrics and looking at like an aggregation of a bunch of them into one number.
