In the catholic tradition, there's a lot of kind of contemplation of the suffering of christ. I think people particularly appeal to mat talbot because he's some one who experienced what they're experiencing and yet points beyond it as well. So so gives a kind of hopeful example of some one who overcame alcoholism. And you could make parallels here to how movements like thet alcoholic sanonymous works. It's precisely by having people wo who've recovered, are recovering alcoholics that act as mentars and models for people who are themselves trying to recover.
