Platonic Orientalism Becomes a Part of Christianity

The church fathers are taking Platonic concepts and ideas in order to understand for them what the gospel message actually means. So they are drawing to a great extent on traditions that I would call Platonic Orientalism. The idea that there is this somehow oriental wisdom that's very, very old that is passed on through the ages of finally reaches Plato. Not the Greeks although Pythagoras sometimes is mentioned as well. But he always is in Egypt or with the Brachmans or both. It comes somewhere from the east.
