The average retirement benefit for men is about 16 hundred dollars, but it's about hundred dollars less for women. By design, this system is kind of stacked against parents, and specifically mothers, because they shoulder a greater portion of the child rearing responsibilities. Feminist economists have floated the idea of privatizing the benefitsfof child rearing by just basically giving the pay roll taxes that are currently funding social security directly to the parents that raised those taxpayers.
But somehow it got very scary.
