The Trial of Ann Bolin
Ann was arrested on the 2nd of May 1536 and taken to the Tower of London. The charges against her were for adultery, incest and treason. Although she put up an admirable battle, it was a show trial in effect. Unsurprisingly, Ann was found guilty of all charges and sentenced to death. She was so terrified that she asked to be executed with a sword rather than an axe because she was afraid the axe would not be quick enough. An expert executioner was brought over from France - he picked up her head and declared God saved the king before the crowd reportedly gasped in horror as Ann's eyes were still moving.
