How to Write a Successful Short Story
With shorter fiction and with poetry, that structure comes to the fore perhaps more easily. A writing workshop from Douglas Glover taught a wonderful lesson that I did use. He talked about time in short stories. And he felt that a very successful short story is going to be similar to how people talk,. We are also referenced the past, and then there's a present time. The more you can do that, the more there's going to be almost like musical resonance in the short story.
