A lot of people tried to guess at this phrase, at this etymology. But again, none of them haveien conclusively proven. Nd, it's because they don't all seem to be a perfect fit reght. Like, i think the one that makes a lot of sense to me is the french word melange. It also could potentially have linguistic roots in the phrase meloncan,. which is a turkish expression referring to something possessed or cursed.
